San Francisco Ski Jump September 29, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life, Weird , add a commentThat’s right, skiing inside the city on an 85 degree day. Recently a group converted two blocks of Fillmore street into a ski jump for some sort of publicity stunt. (Not without controversy, of course, since this is San Francisco.) I went and checked it out this afternoon and it was pretty cool. I’ve never seen so many people on one street before. I had to push and shove for 10 minutes before I could even get close enough to see anything. The jumpers were actually pretty decent. I shuttered to think what would happen if a skier went slightly off course. With so many people standing nearby, it could have been disastrous. Anyway, check out my photos and decide for yourself.
San Francisco as Google Sees It July 15, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life , add a commentOk, you asked for it, here it is. A Google Earth picture of my new pad. Pretty, snazzy, eh?
I’ve only been at the new place for a few days, but I like it already. It’s in Nob Hill (near Russian Hill) and just up the street from a whole slew of shops and restaurants. In my bedroom I have two windows: one faces the bay and the other has a good view of the city. Of course, to get such a good view the place is on top of hill, but I’ll build some good leg muscles walking around so it’s all good. It has hard wood floors and a great kitchen. The only problem with the place is that the walls give new definition to paper-thin. The neighbors were unbearably noisy for a while and we were getting very concerned, but they’re quieter now (and good looking too!)
I’d show you real pictures, but unfortunately I accidentally erased the memory card for my digital camera. I think I can restore the files, but not until I get back to SF. Well OK, gotta run, more later.
Oh, while you’re at it… read my roommate’s blog.
Starting Fresh… July 7, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life , 9commentsIt’s official. I quit my job and I’m moving to San Francisco and going full time with my business. This is something I’ve dreamed of for a long time and it’s finally happening. I’m going to miss Southern California, my co-workers, my folks and friends, but I won’t miss the LA traffic or having to work all day. I really have a unique opportunity here and I plan to make the most of it.
I’ll post more details later.

College Dorm-Meets-”American Idol” February 3, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life , add a commentWhen I first was looking at moving to Studio City, I searched on Google and the Archstone apartments came up first (which incidentally is across the street from where I ended up living). After reading this article in the LA Times I’m not sure if I’m glad I didn’t end up there, or if I wish I did end up there. Hmm…
A Good Way to Start the Week January 10, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life , 3commentsI have some good news. I finally got to meet all my neighbors. The bad news is that it was at 5 AM. The fire alarm went off. The continuous ear-splitting wail combined with a rapid strobe light in my bedroom created a very unpleasant way to wake up. I go outside and nothing whatsoever is happening so I went back to sleep. Just as I fall asleep at 6 AM, the alarm from hell goes off again. I go outside again and nothing is happening, so back to bed. By then I’m too awake to fall back asleep but I try anyway. Then the damn goes off again at 7:45, I give up and go to work. I was the first one here too!
LA River January 9, 2005
Posted by Owen in : Life , add a commentHooboy, the river outside is getting full… I’m almost thinking about moving my car out from the-below-river-level parking garage… another foot and my car will be underwater. I read they had more rain in the past 3 months than they normally get in a year.

It’s a cold day… October 31, 2004
Posted by Owen in : Life , add a commentDish Network has a election day “interactive” feature where you can watch 6 different channels of election day coverage simultaneously… they show 4 of the usual suspects (CNN, Fox News, C-SPAN, MSNBC) and MTV and Comedy Central. It’s strange that out of 200+ channels, some of the best coverage is from entertainment stations. I know the daily show is popular, but man!
Also in the interactive application, Dish Network had a “Dish Poll” that shows that Dish Network customers give Kerry 50% of the vote, Bush 48%, and Nader 2%. I too can vote in this poll, if I’m willing to pay $.50. Who on earth would pay 50 cents to vote on a TV poll buried deep in an obscure menu? Talk about milking their customers!
