And how the hell can tech support be so chipper at this hour?

Iconator Animator March 9, 2006

Check out this new tool I made: You upload some images and it creates an animated buddy icon out of them. You can then use drag and drop to reorder the animator and there’s lots of size and compression options. It’s like having a copy of GIF Animation Studio right on the web! It’s really a cool tool with lots of little hidden features. For example, if you upload an image that’s already animated, it’ll decompose it and let you remix the frames. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Think so? March 9, 2006

From Associated Press:

Much of the controversy has focused on 10 words: “I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.”

President Bush made the statement in a television interview last Sept. 1, three days after Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast and inundated much of New Orleans.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan has said Bush’s comments were not intended to suggest that no one had anticipated levee failures.

I guess McClellan must be focussing on the first three words of Bush’s comment.

I was reading the dmesg logs on one of my webservers and I saw this:

TCP: Treason uncloaked! Peer 202.174.132.25x:51883/80 shrinks window 794751974:794751975. Repaired.

It’s not fair! How come I have to have the treasonous TCP/IP stack? All I’m going to say is that if my webserver ends up in Guantanamo I’m going to be very mad.

Recently, I went to Las Vegas. There, for the first time, I tried my hand at blackjack. I did pretty well… I played $100 and after 30 minutes, I had $205. That’s a profit of 105%. Not bad for 30 minutes of work. Last week I went to Tahoe to go skiing (which was tremendously fun–amazing snow and no crowds). I tried my hand at Harrah’s: played $40 and won $95, a profit of 137%. Not shabby.

Of course, the numbers are small, even if the percentages are large. In the time I was playing in Tahoe, the woman next to me lost almost $2000–it was amazing watching her lose money. It never ended. I think I was actually indirectly causing the casino to lose money since a larger roller couldn’t sit down. It makes me wonder if I was just lucky, or if I’m good at blackjack–if such a thing is possible. I play very conservatively and keep an eye on the trend in the stack. In the back of my mind, I want to increase my bets and make some serious money. If I’m doing so well now, why couldn’t I do it with larger amounts of money? Of course, in the long run, the game is a net loss, but it’s been good so far… and fun too. However, I don’t want to become like the woman I sat next to, endlessly loosing money and getting nothing for it. So I think I’ll hold back and not push my luck… but then again, you never know…

Last weekend I checked out a copy of The Hotel on the Roof of the World by Alec Le Sueur from the main branch of the San Francisco library. (It’s a hilarious read–highly recommended.) Stuck between the pages, was this photo. I don’t know, I just can’t stop laughing whenever I look at it. It would be great to find the people in this photo and ask them what the hell they were thinking.

According to Alexa, Iconator is the most-popular 3rd-party Instant Messaging related website! Right after the MSN, ICQ, AIM, and Yahoo IM websites is Iconator. Buddy4u rounds out the list at spot #10.

The next step is to be more popular than the official AIM website. Now that would be something!

iTunes 6 has just been released by Apple and they added the ability to download TV shows and other movies. Shouldn’t they rename the software to something like iMedia?
